The Power of Positivity

A good attitude goes a long way!
-Aaron Tekin, posted to comments 110607

Aaron recently posted this to the comments of the blog following compliments on his pull-up progress, and his score in that day’s workout.  If you’ve had the pleasure of working out with Aaron, you know he brings a positive outlook and a smile to the box every time he’s in.  Due to an old injury Aaron’s been staying away from most weighted and barbell movements over the last few weeks, but he doesn’t let it get him down. Instead he’s used it as an opportunity to work on body weight movements, and the results have been outstanding.

A positive attitude is very important in reaching our goals, be they fitness related or otherwise.  Sometimes I notice goals stated negatively, such as “I don’t want X.”  Focusing on the negative brings negative results.  We better serve ourselves when goals are positively stated.  One of my least favorite things to hear is “I can’t do X.”  Anyone who states and believes they cannot do something, whether it’s getting a first pull-up, PR’ing a lift, or winning the CrossFit Games, will not be able to.  A better way to phrase it may be, “I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it.”  An injury, missed goal, or any other set back does not have to be a failure.  It’s an opportunity to analyze the data, learn from it, and see how we can improve next time.  Bring an outlook like Aaron’s, push to be a little bit better everyday, and you will achieve the results you’re after.

Support the Team!
Regionals are right around the corner, and the CrossFit Fenway team is training hard, readying themselves to represent our box against the best athletes the Northeast has to offer.  Be there to support our athletes Friday, June 17th, Saturday, June 18th, and Sunday, June 19th at Reebok World Headquarters in Canton, MA.

Schedule Updates: There will be no classes at CrossFit Fenway this Friday, June 17th, and no invasion Saturday, June 18th.  Monday, June 20th we will be running uncapped classes at 7:30 AM, 12 PM, and 6:30 PM.  These will be run like an invasion, with no sign ups or pre-registration required.  All you need to do is show up and workout at one of the three designated times.

  1. Overhead Squat – 60kg
WOD – 14:28 Rx – still need work on my double unders

Good luck to everyone competing at Regionals this weekend!

  2. I saw a great example of Aaron’s positivity on Tuesday when I caught him grinning for no apparent reason during the walking lunges/pull-up/sit-ups WOD. Great work buddy, keep it up!

For anyone who needs a ride to Canton Saturday and/or Sunday, I should have room for at least a couple more people. Must be able to tolerate moderate road rage and intermittently loud music.

Kill it on Friday, Team CFF!

  3. I am SO excited for this weekend and can’t wait to see our Fenway athletes crush it.

Is anyone going to be providing live updates tomorrow?
