I had a professor in college that emphasized the importance of simply showing up. He told us that just being there consistently, on time for class was worth at least a “C’, anything we could prove we learned on exams was a bonus. Motivational consequences were added, and we occasionally received “quizzes” to test our attendance. The answer was our names. This helped get me out of bed more than once after a long, hard night of practice, studying, or partying.
It’s getting to be the time of year when, more often than not, it’s dark, cold, and wet outside. There will be times when you’d rather stay in bed, go straight home after work, or otherwise skip class. Be resilient, and show up. You’ve got fitness goals, and the best way to continue working towards them is showing up. Your coaches and classmates will pick you up, and you’ll feel better for having done it, no matter how frightful the weather outside. Any PRs are a bonus. Also, I can almost guarantee there won’t be any lectures on constitutional history.

Announcements
As some of you may know, David Kelts’ brother is currently serving in Afghanistan and he’s taking part in collecting holiday cards for hospitalized and injured veterans. The American Red Cross has teamed up with Pitney Bowes in a campaign called “Holidays for Heroes” and David purchased a bunch of holiday greeting cards and left them at CrossFit Fenway. Please feel free to sign 1 or 10 of them and place in the envelope, he’ll take care of mailing the bunch Friday, December 9th! It’s a simple way to say thanks and happy holidays to those who’ve lost so much while serving.
The 2012 CrossFit Games season is coming. CrossFit Fenway is formally beginning our preparations this Saturday, December 10th at 8 AM with a meeting for all athletes interested in competing. Please e-mail Eric with any questions, or if you would like to participate, but cannot make it.
I heart this WOD, for reasons I don’t quite understand.
SDL: 80kg This lift makes no sense in my brain, as I can hit 100kg on a regular DL.
WOD: 13:24 @ 25kg and 15in box
REALLY strong first row, and then I had Tabata-residue making my legs feel like jelly. Thx to Greg for helping me drop down to 25kg mid-rep scheme…
I think you have a subconscious emotional attachment to 2/3 of Jackie. I also suspect you’ll heart it a little less around, say, thruster #10.
Yup.
(for both parts, actually 😉
Sumo Deadlift 90kg PR
Really struggled on the workout, and thank you to Stacey because she really talked to me about setting my pace, it’s something I need to work on during these high rep WODS. Example: I was the first one off the rower at the start, but the last to finish. Finished about 4 minutes slower than I wanted…what I love about CrossFit is there’s always work to be done!
WOD: 15:38
PR’D my Sumo Deadlift 60kg 🙂
Pushed myself pretty hard however the fear around box jumps still seems to get the better part of me so I had to substitute there…
WOD Time: 14:05
Thanks KP for the fun warm up 🙂
Way to get after it, Dave.

WOD — 13:40Rx, this was a lot more difficult than I expected, but a much better way to start a Wednesday than going straight to the office.
Coolest 5:30am moment today was watching your bar bend- nice work!
SDL: 120 KG (PR)
WOD: 9:09 RX
Fun morning with with the KP warm-up.
SDL – 120 kg (PR)
WOD – 10:54 – did 40 kg on the thrusters (should’ve added that extra 5 kg) and only a 20″ box so I could practice my rebounding (which I also couldn’t do).
It was a fun WOD though.
SDL: 70 kg PR
WOD: 11:11 with 22kg for thrusters… my legs are still hurting from Tabata too..
Great work 5:30- always fun lifting with “anonymous”…
Sumo DL: 130kg. Still trying to find my comfort zone with this lift.
WOD: 12:35rx. Thrusters should have been a bit faster. Thanks for the encouragement Sam. Also, had a bunch of fun with the tire flipping warm up.
