Sausagefest

I love sausage.  Chorizo, spicy or sweet Italian, you name it.  Every time I go to a Sox game I see The Sausage Guy first for one of my favorite ballpark treats/cheats.

At least once a week Lesley and I cook up a package of Al Fresco Spicy Jalapeno Chicken Sausage (pictured left).  It’s available at several grocery stores, and very easy to cook up with a plate full of veggies in a bit of olive oil for a quick, delicious dinner.  Yes, there’s quite a bit of sodium in there, and I’m sure you could look for other flaws with some part of the content, but one package (contains 4 servings) has 60g of protein, and only 8g carbs, in 520 calories.  If you don’t like spicy, other flavors are available.  With our crazy schedules, and the quick prep time, this is definitely meat worth trying.

  1. A. I second the support of the chicken sausage; it’s a staple of my diet. I would like to emphasize how flawlessly a batch of chicken sausage + veggies on hand moves from dinner to breakfast to lunch.

    B. I love this photo; I think it’s my favorite from the CF Newton event.

    C. I just did yesterday’s bear complex + burpees WOD in the hotel gym here in NYC, in the ballpark of 10 minutes at 65 lbs. Next to a guy who was maxing out his bench press. I was worried I was going to have to save him from underneath his barbell.

    See you Friday!

  2. Pull ups — Got to 30#, definite PR. I banged out 5 kipping pull-ups with the weight vest afterward…big incentive to eat more cleanly and not gain 20#.

    WOD — 16:47 with 20# cleans and 10# WBs.

  3. Pullups – Got to 12#

    WOD – 12:28 Rx…but I might have only done 4 rounds. I lost count…

attempted a 75 kg clean after I recovered from the WOD (would have been a 10kg pr) and apparently almost dislocated my hip. Wish someone was video taping this because I’m sure it was spectacular and would have loved to see it.

  4. Thank you all so very much for the card. It made me smile and I showed it to all my Drs.

I am still in the hospital down in DC and will likely be here for a few more days at least. I haven’t eaten in a week and have lost some weight. My diet has consisted of sugar water administered through an IV. Not quite paleo.

I was diagnosed with mycoplama pneumonia. Supposedly a very common bacteria I could have caught anywhere. I had an exceptionally strong reaction to it. I can fill those of you who are interested in on more details when I get back.

Good news is I should have a full recovery eventually. I look forward to getting back in the box and seeing if sugar water is as bad for fitness as they say it is!

    Thank you again,
    Zander

    1. Ahhh. Was wondering where you were! Wishing you a speedy recovery. Looking forward to watching your CF performances again soon.

  5. Dead hangs. Got down to a purple-banded pull-up.
WOD: 13:08 Rx – Was still a little sore from all the HBBS work on Monday, but I loosened up pretty quickly.

  6. shoulder is tweaky again 🙁
but i never worry…stacey always comes up with a new and improved way to torture! Lots of sit-ups and pistols.
    WOD: 14kg cleans and 20kg slams 13:28

HUGE SHOUT OUT to Haley and Justin doing week 3’s WOD. Hot Damn! Big weight! I dislocate my hip just thinking about it!!

  7. So as I was sitting down to dinner last night, I checked the blog. I couldn’t help but laugh as I forked sausage and broccoli into my face.
