Mental Edge

Wednesday’s workout is one we’ve done before.  It’s one of those ones where it definitely pays to be a winner.  The faster you complete the swings, the fewer burpess you’ll have to do.  The number one thing you can do to get through this workout as quickly as possible, with a minimum number of burpees is hold onto your kettlebell.  It calls for mental toughness to resist the urge to drop the bell.  Sure, it’s heavy, your forearms are on fire, and your grip is starting to give, but that rock with a handle is a lot harder to pick back up than it is to put down.  Be stronger mentally, otherwise you’ll be wasting precious seconds thinking about picking the thing back up, picking it back up, and getting your momentum started all over again.  Hey, even if your burpees are smokin’ fast that still only leaves 45 – 50 seconds for swings, and you can do anything for less than a minute.020810-7983

Skill: 2 rounds:
10 Overhead squats
10 Dead hang pull-ups
10 Ring dips

Strength: Power clean

WOD: 100 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood

Begin the workout with 5 burpees, complete 5 burpees every minute on the minute while completing the kettlebell swings

Started at 1.5 pood, lasted about 3 rounds and had to drop to 1 pood,….lost my count somewhere around 60 because I was about to pass out from all the burpees I was doing (had 1 round of back to back burpees), and then Stacey had mercy on me at the 11 minute mark….what a disaster! All in all, another great day at crossfit!

      I have no idea what time I got last time. My journal that day looks like I was riding in the backseat of a safari jeep while writing. So apparently, I was pretty wiped out by the WOD. 😀 Good work by the 7:30am class!

      1. Thanks, Justin! I remember the last time we did this (back when I was crazy and went to the 5:30am classes), I finished just a few seconds behind you and was so excited… until I looked over and realized you had 1.5pd and I had 1pd haha maybe one day I’ll be on your level 🙂

  3. Way to go 12:00 class! — we took it outdoors to face the heat, could have fried an egg on those mats. A great incentive to get those burpees done fast! Fun in the sun at Crossfit — who would have known.

    Coincidentally, I finished same time as you, 5:42rx, but we got smoked by the young guns Kyle and James who hit sub 5min and sub 4min respectively…

    90kg on the clean… almost at the Orlando clean level…WTF!!!
