Lift Heavy, Stay Light on Your Feet

Thursday’s conditioning workout features the deadlift matched up in a triplet with a couple more technical movements in pistols and double unders.  The short reps of a heavy lift favor a bigger, stronger athlete, while the other elements are generally better suited to a smaller, quicker individual.  This contradiction of movements found within the same workout is not only common in CrossFit, but we seek it out.   Practicing combinations such as this are key in creating a broad, inclusive fitness, and more well-rounded athletes.  Be well rounded.

  1. Push press: 45kg
WOD: 9:51 at 65kg and some band help on the pistols, but I’m getting close. Adding those to my long list of homework…

I’ve had months of frustration that I often jerk my push presses, but I think I finally figured it out today! Super excited.

    YEAH 5:30!

    1. Direct quote from Sam, after push-pressing 80kg for 5: “I want to jerk it so bad!”

I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old.

  2. Push press: 60kg (failed 65) – really frustrated at my lack of overhead strength
WOD: 12:46 (maybe 12:56?) Rx – a little concerned at how heavy 125kg started to feel…form really started to break down.

      1. Shruj…seriously?!
JS: Thanks 🙂 Erica and I are birthday buddies?
No wonder we get along so well! Send her my love! xox

  4. Push Press:
    WOD: 1.78 Justins Rx

After the workout Stacey showed me video of my deadlifts. People were shouting at me to keep my back tight, yet every single rep I lost it and rounded my back. It was like watching a horror movie unfold, where the audience yells “don’t go in there!” but the character opens the door anyway and gets killed.

      1. Yosh, are you calling Justin a minute-man? I don’t know if he’ll appreciate that.

And no, I missed the drop. Don’t worry, I’ll send a guy.

  5. Happy Birthday(s?) friends! I’ve been pretty cranky at work the last few days…and realized it’s because I haven’t started my mornings at CFF. Taking it easy until the Half on Sunday.

  6. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes!! I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else this morning. It was perfect to be with my crossfit friends for a bday WOD. Love you all.

  7. Push Press: 92kg
WOD: 8:03 jsrx (that means justin’s rx @ 130) need to learn double unders, one at a time doesn’t really work well.
