CrossFitting since: I’ve been a member for a very long time, long enough to not remember when I started (Julie has been a member since the old box. She joined back in May of 2010). I ruptured my Achilles skiing and once I shed the crutches I had hired a personal trainer to help strengthen my leg. The trainer was Pat Padgett and when he left Chris Gosler (owner of CrossFit Southie) took over. Chris started getting into Crossfit and started implementing CrossFit style workouts with me in my training, which I liked. He suggested I go to CrossFit Fenway and schedule a free trial with Stacey. At my free trial, I did the WOD Cindy (push-ups from my knees and a big green band for pull-ups) and here I am now.

Favorite CrossFit WOD: Any chipper workout, specifically with more body weight movements. I enjoy the long, endurance type WODs, but I can also appreciate the shorter, heavier type WODs. Either way, I think if you are mentally prepared, you will perform well. My mentality has always been the quicker I move through this, the quicker it will be over.

Favorite CrossFit WOD song: Whatever Sam chooses on a given evening.photo-2-1

Cheat meal of choice: I’m not Paleo, so I don’t have a cheat meal. But I do eat cleanly meaning meats and vegetables and I would never say no to an adult beverage. I’ve never been concerned about the way I eat.
Greatest CrossFit achievement so far: Being able to front squat my body weight. Squatting is not my favorite, so any body weight squat with good form is a win in my book. I also like hang cleans and power cleans
One interesting thing about yourself not related to CrossFit: On weekends, I ski in the winter and mountain bike in the summer. Also, I’ve started more distance running this past year and the verdict is still out on whether I enjoy it or not. *Julie is being a bit modest about her running as she participated in the Wapack trail race and is part of the Fenway team for the Ultra Ragnar Team Relay race in May.

Complete the sentence – “CrossFit should…”: be fun, otherwise I wouldn’t do it.

Why do you CrossFit: I CrossFit for my health as it keeps me in shape and challenges me with the variety of exercises and movements.

Favorite CrossFit moment: I guess it has to be a combination of accomplishments that I never imagined ever caring about or possibly being able to do. Kipping of any sort, lifting my body weight above my head, pushing myself to the extreme during WODs without puking, all while maintaining my main goal which is doing something that keeps me motivated because it’s fun (and the obvious keeping me in shape).
