You don’t understand cardio until you’ve done Helen

-CrossFit Endurance t-shirt

Helen is one of the benchmark workouts that doesn’t look too bad on paper.  It’s only 3 rounds, only 400 meters of running, only 21 kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood isn’t that heavy, and it’s only 12 pull-ups.  True enough, Helen is not a slow girl (check out this video of Brendon Mahoney from CrossFit Atlanta WMV/MOV).  Your lungs will be burning, your grip will smoked, and you may be questioning your own sanity.  Aim high on this one, and do everything as close to prescribed as you can.  This is a test, and you will have another date with Helen in the future.020810-8001

  1. Hey guys- I need shirt sizes for Eric, JT and Stacey so we can send you all a shirt. One of you email me that info back along with the mailing address and we’ll send them out to you.

  2. Loved this one (minus one good wipe out on our snow covered 400m course) and boy is eric right…it looks deceivingly simple on paper. Its not. 10:27 as Rx’d

    1. Snow builds character. And yeah, it’s so far less simple than it looks… would you have preferred “Row 500m” instead of “Run 400m”? 🙂

  3. I’m ok with a run or row, I’m equally mediocre at them both right now. And if I say I’d prefer row Justin will call me a wuss.

Great workout, 11:12 was my time, zero wipeouts in the snow unlike Justin and Claire that will be sporting rasberries!

Good luck knocking down the wall this weekend, sorry I cant help but looking forward to seeing the changes.

    1. that video is nuts, scary good Helen time. the 400m run is certainly key to a good time, should be right in your wheelhouse Jon

  4. That workout was awesome. I was super intimidated coming in today because the last run/push-up combo we had 7 weeks ago (remember that one Justin? The one where it was like 18 degrees?) nearly killed me . . . I couldn’t even jog 400 meters, let alone run.

7 weeks later, I ran the ‘ish out of that course and knocked Helen out in 11:22 (1 pood, green band). I seriously can’t even believe that such a result is possible when we’ve only gone running twice in the entire time I’ve been at CFF.

Nice to meet all of you at the noon class (don’t worry 5:30, I’ll be back next week ;p).

    See ya’ll tomorrow. 🙂

  5. Hey all- Helen is today’s WOD on the main site. Some of the comments are pretty funny.

One guy basically said, “Only 36 pullups?!” Someone else said: “Helen beat me like I owed her money.”

    Good stuff, good stuff.
