Heavy Thrusters

Just typing that title makes me a feel a little ill.  Thrusters, even at a moderate weight can be a crushing movement.  The front squat, push press combo is made that much more devastating when any kind of significant weight is loaded on the bar, and if you decide to break up the work, it just means an extra time you’ve got to clean that weight up off the ground. Tuesday’s challenging, little metcon features ring dips, and some heavy thrusters, but it’s only 5 at a time.  Don’t break them up.  Get ready for a hot and heavy Tuesday at CrossFit Fenway.

June 29th, 2010

Skill: Pistols

Strength: Deadlift 3-3-3-3-3

WOD: Complete 5 Rounds for Time of:
5 Thrusters (60kg/40kg)
10 Ring Dips

The CrossFit Fenway Endurance program is filling up fast.  Be sure and e-mail Eric to reserve your spot, and for more information.

The Red Sox are back home, and done with the National League…for now.  They’re hosting the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday, who are trailing the Sox by a game in the race for the Wild Card, and experiencing some intrasquad turmoil.  Because of all this baseball action, there will be no parking Tuesday evening at CrossFit Fenway.

***Crossfit Fenway will be closed Monday, July 5th***

  1. I was thinking it would be great to be back from Baltimore for a WOD tomorrow, but reading this makes me think I’m okay staying here another day. 😀 Yesterday’s looked like fun, though!

Done at CF Arenal here: Diane
    225# DL
    HSPU (scaled to Abmat rd1, 2 abmats rds 2 & 3)

Should have scaled to abmat plus a small plate for the whole WOD. Got through the DLs well enough, but the 21 HSPU took forever. The 2-mat HSPUs were far too easy and fast, though. Scaling correctly is important.

    See y’all very soon!

  2. DL – 170kg
    WOD: 9:20 Rx

The heavy thrusters were what scared me, but the ring dips were actually what really slowed me down in the end. My last round was mostly singles i was so gassed.

    1. I had the same experience. Looking at the workout I thought “I’ve got, like, _3_ muscle ups these days. Dips aren’t hard for me anymore. That will be like a recovery period”.

By round 3 I was doing single dips with 4 breathes of rest between each of them. I’m such an idiot.

  3. Hey Everyone – there are still spme spots open for the Olympic lifting class being held here tomorrow night from 5:00pm-8:00 by EC and James Hobart. It will be a great class and only $75!! Let me know asap if you would like to attend!

    **no regular classes tomorrow night!**

  4. DL 135kg
    WOD 11:57 Rx

Got the depth down on my thrusters, but I still need to work on locking out at the top. Thanks Stacey for calling me out and making me do it right.

  5. 160kg Deadlift, not sure why i couldn’t do more, I put on 170kg for last set, didn’t even get it an inch off the floor!

7:08rx WOD, made up time on doing the thrusters as unbroken as possible, resting with the bar on the top of my chest and a deep breath – you lose at least 30sec every time you drop the bar.

    1. great time, and i completely agree on the thrusters. i made the mental mistake of dropping it to rest, and my time showed it. heavy thrusters, especially for only 5 reps are for me as much a mental challenge as a physical one.

  6. WOD: 8:49
15kg thrusters (so, not heavy at all) and red band for 1 round before I ran to get a purple.

It just felt good to get some range of motion back in the shoulder, even if trying to go heavier/back to red made me almost cry.
