Gettin’ Huge

Next time your extra tan, spiky haired friend/cousin/coworker asks you “how much you bench?” you’ll have a response, because Thursday we’re doing it.  The bench press is a great exercise for developing pure upper body strength, especially when used with the strict shoulder press, which we do regularly.  You can move more weight in the bench press than in the shoulder press.  Once proper technique is learned all you have to worry about is pushing.  In the shoulder press your entire body is working to stabilize the load as it is pressed over head.  While bench pressing your body is supported, allowing for a maximal effort, and absolute expression of strength.  Even though we’re mixing in this classic gym lift, have no fear, we’re not planning on bicep curls or calf raises any time soon.

  1. Looks like my kind of Thursday evening fun.

For anyone who is looking for a ride to CFNE on Saturday, I have 2-3 more spots in my car (depending on how squashed you back-seaters want to be). My plan is to meet at CFF Saturday morning and go from there…reply to this post or email me at scrappyoleary@gmail.com for reservations! 🙂

  2. Bench press: 43kg – greater than my overhead press PR of 38, as Eric suggested above
    WOD: 12:59 on 20″ box

AND I DID A MOTHERF**KING PULL UP TODAY! I was feeling so disappointed in myself over the weekend because I didn’t meet my goal of doing it by Halloween, but I’ll take it! A special thanks to Aaron and Joe who repeatedly told me to shut up and go practice, you know, rather than talking about how I couldn’t do one. And to JT who made me show him this morning that I couldn’t do one. You guys are best. 🙂

  3. Xin Chao!!! (Means hello in Vietnamese)

If you hadn’t guessed, we’re currently in Vietnam and headed to China in just two more days! I’m about a week away from visiting the Great Wall, which has been on my Bucket List since I learned about it in elementary school!!

I just wanted to drop in and say hello and wish everyone who’s competing this Saturday GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Go kill it, guys!! You’re all Beasts of the East.

    Have fun!

    See you soon.
