Games Recap

The 2011 CrossFit Games were the experience of a lifetime.  It was humbling, educational, and enjoyable.  We got off to a tough start, going in the first heat of the first event, and admittedly underestimated the number of very large sandbags.  As the workouts kept coming, we collectively felt good about them.  Probably the biggest thing we learned was the difference in the competition between Regionals and the Games.  Workouts that seemingly played to our strengths, and may have resulted in a solid score at the Regional level, were only placing us in the lower-middle of the pack.  That said, all of the workouts were a blast, and it was a privilege to compete on that stage.

Less than 2 years ago there was no CrossFit Fenway, and this was our first try at the Affiliate Cup.  We were given number 143 (we love you too), ranked lowest of all teams.  I couldn’t be prouder of our team getting to the Games, receiving the opportunity to perform in that arena, and giving it everything we had.  Congratulations to our friends at CrossFit New England on their outstanding performance and victory.

Watching Stacey was beyond impressive.  All of the work she’s put in since last year’s Regional was evident.  She showed no weakness, and seemed to get stronger as the weekend progressed, posting her best 3 scores in her last 3 events, and making a great push to qualify for the final cut.  Stacey finished 15th in the world, and can certainly lay claim to being one of the fittest women on earth.  A well deserved end to an amazing Games season.

I believe I speak for all of our competitors when I say we were honored and humbled to have so many members of the CrossFit Fenway family out there with us.  Thank you.  Our community drives us, and I can’t wait to see what we can do next year.

  1. I just want to say how awesome it was watching all of the athletes this weekend. I’m not going to lie, I teared up a bit watching the athletes that had finished cheer on those that will still working.

    1. That’s my favorite part about CrossFit. It’s so amazing to see the fittest people on Earth doing the same thing we do in class.

Good to see you in the comments section. You should post here more often.

  7. watching you all kick ass in LA makes me miss my days at CFF…still rocking my CFF t-shirt here in VB with a silhouette of an overhead squat that looks suspiciously like stacey.

  8. DL: 143×5. (Working on my Wendler program.)
Row 1k: 3:50. Coulda gone better – I think I paced too slow in the first 500.

Rather than my usual 5000 word blog, I’ll keep it simple: I love you all and I’m so proud of everyone. I feel blessed to know you all.
