From Haley

The Garage Games were awesome, and I’ll share some thoughts and photos tomorrow,  but this blog is all Haley’s.

As you may know, beginning Monday, Haley will be coaching classes at CrossFit Somerville, helping Yosh get everything up and going.  Haley’s progress has been incredible, and her determination is unmatched.  I think I speak for our entire community in saying it’s been amazing getting to know Haley, and working with her along the way, but our journey together doesn’t end here.  Haley and Yosh are still very much a part of the CrossFit Fenway family.

From Haley:

Like many of you, I had no idea how my life would change the first time I walked into CrossFit Fenway. Back then, I was a weak, out of shape college student trying to run a marathon. I could barely do a push up from my toes, and I fell over the first time I tried to backsquat an empty barbell. Seriously, it was an absolute disaster.

Fast-forward 22 months to now: I can definitely squat more than the barbell, I climbed a rope on the floor of the Home Depot Center at the CrossFit Games, and I’ve been lucky enough to coach all of you every morning. While my personal progress still seems unbelievable at times, what’s even more important to me is the number of lifelong friends I’ve made along the way, and the overwhelming amount of support I’ve received from our amazing Fenway community. Who would have thought it would be possible to form such strong bonds…at a gym?!

I’m sure you all understand what I mean when I say that we’ve got something special here at Fenway. We’ve got great coaches who genuinely care about what happens to us both inside and outside of the gym. We’ve got a fierce team of athletes and an even better cheering crowd at competitions (Seriously… have you ever heard the response KP gets when she sends out the “Fenway” call at a competition? It rocks). And most importantly, we have 240+ members who show up every day and give their best to make everyone around them – their friends- better.

I can’t wait to start an extension of our Fenway family at CrossFit Somerville, and I can only hope that it grows into something as strong and amazing as what we have here. To everyone I’ve ever coached, worked out with, or laughed with, thank you for making this place great. Thank you for showing up every day and giving your best; it is always inspiring, and what gets me out of bed every morning. Thanks for putting up with some of my crazy warmups, and maybe one too many plays of “Black and Yellow” (or lately, Nicki Minaj!). Finally, thank you for giving me the opportunity to do what I love every day.

I’ll miss all of you, but I can’t wait for our first Fenway/Somerville throwdown! Please feel free to come check out the new space and play with our new equipment. Keep training hard and keep posting about your PRs to the blog so I can stay updated on your progress. See you all soon!

  1. Aww, Haley, I’ll miss you at Fenway (but totally see you at Somerville, so…).

I, too, fell over attempting to squat an empty barbell when I first walked into CFF. This weekend, I competed with Games athletes. It’s been an amazing ride so far and I cannot wait for more. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us this weekend!

  2. thank you haley.

thank you for pushing me as hard as you do. thank you for playing rolling in the deep three zillion times. thank you for not hating me for being a terrible bench press spotter (i’m still sorry about that!). thank you for making me play the fish game even though it’s impossible to win. thank you for being all that i aspire to be in cross fit and beyond. thank you for being the reason i am a senior in college waking up on a day with no class just to work out with you. thank you for telling me i can do something when i think i can’t. thank you for the countless PRs that we have accomplished together. thank you for believing in me. thank you for allowing me to believe in myself. and finally, thank you for only going 3.3 miles away.

    see you soon. 🙂

  3. Haley —
You have been an incredible source of inspiration throughout the year and a half(ish) since I found CF. You’ve been an amazing example of what can be accomplished through the sheer force of will and dedication.

We will miss seeing you everyday, but we’ll always have Friday, Friday…yes, I realize everyone hates that song.

    1. OHS — went for volume today (another goat/donkey exposed at Garage Games), did 5 sets of 10-15 at 25kg

WOD — 143 Rx, but unlike Cal (identical score), I haven’t been boozing and eating badly for the last week. Nice work.

1,000,000 thanks to everyone who came out and supported the CFF crew at Southie over the weekend!

  4. Haley was the instructor for my first ever CF class! CF Somerville is a block from my house, but I like you all at CFF! Grrr decisions!

  5. I’ll miss seeing you at Fenway Haley- always a smile on your face.. even bright and early at 5:30am..

OS: 26kg…getting back into it …again..
WOD: 151 with low weights. Nice burner!

  6. Haley you rock!

    WOD – Recovery workout

The competition this weekend was a blast! To all my fellow competitors and those who showed up to watch, thank you for your support. I learned a lot…mainly what I need to work on.

  7. haley – you are incredible. after so many workouts lots of comments are giving you thanks for the extra push at the end or to try something we don’t think we can do. your constant encouragement and positive reinforcement have helped me so much over the past few months. you made getting up at 5am for the gym totally worth it! you’ve come so far – it’s so inspiring to watch you workout and to be reminded of your crossfit story. good luck!

today was my first workout back after a glutinous, all inclusive 7-day vacation. i thought this was going to go terribly, since i didn’t really do much working out while i was away, but i was pleasantly surprised!

    OHS: 39kg PR
    WOD: 143 Rx

Haley, Best wishes for some exciting happenings over at CrossFit Somerville. Thank you for all your support, friendship, and kindness over the past year and a half. And, many thanks for pushing me those days where I’ve thought I couldn’t do something and you’ve made me… even when Stacey wasn’t looking. You have made such amazing progress over this time and are a true role model for so many of us at Fenway. I know we’ll be seeing you around. I wish you and Yosh the best in getting this new place up and running! See you soon!

  9. Haley! I can without a doubt say that none of us would have been there this past weekend if it wasn’t for you. All of the brutal warm ups and WODs were worth it because it made us stronger with the desire to strive for that next PR. Now kick ass in Somerville!

OHS: 65kg (lost balance on 70kg)
    WOD: 141 rx
