CrossFit Fenway Worldwide: Scrappy GORUCK NYC

The exact time domain of a GORUCK Challenge is at the discretion of the cadre leading the exercise, but it’s generally between 11 and 14 hours of Indian runs, log carries, bear crawls, farmer carries, and “water aerobics”, performed under the load of at least one ruck.  The photo below shows Scrappy during the 9/11 Memorial GORUCK Challenge in NYC, carrying 2 rucks, each containing 4 bricks, food, and a couple of liters of water, while still managing a big smile.  In addition to Scrappy GORUCK alums from the CrossFit Fenway family include Dennis Moriconi, John Hopkins, and Mary Fergus.

Scrappy also ran the Marine Corps Marathon this past Sunday.  In her trademark style, she was right back in the gym Tuesday evening.  Scrappy, your effort and determination are inspiring.

  1. Well I suppose this post obligates me to come in and work on the goat/donkey of HSPUs in a WOD…

A word on marathons: when I first walked into CFF (June 2010) I’d never run more than 9K. Less than a year later, I ran a marathon in 4:24 and about seven months after that I ran Marine Corps Marathon in 4:11. It’s 95% about the mental game; if your head and heart aren’t dialed in, your legs will not be able to pick up the slack. That said, it’s totally doable and I know a lot of you would do better than you may expect…

  2. DL – 145 kg (tied my 3 rep PR, but ran out of time before I could do my last round)
WOD – 12:50 (scaled everything – 2 abmats, 40kg thrusters, knees close to elbows)

Nice work on the Ruck, Scrappy!

  3. DL: 45 kg…back not feeling good
WOD: 13:51, @ 25 kg thruster and pushups..surprisingly tough WOD, but I felt off this morning too…

  4. Scraps is an absolute badass. Your work ethic and willingness to always dominate is inspiring!!

Dl: 70kg. My dead lift form is still shitty.

Wod: 10:10 with 30kg thrusters and knees to the general vicinity of elbows. Hindsight…should’ve gone with slightly more than 30.

  5. Alexander Rafael

DL: 140 x3 failed at 147. — need some form improvement, strength improvement, grit improvement here. I’ve bene hanging out at this weight for a while.

WoD: 16:39 RX – heavy thrusters are heavy for me. head wasn’t there to push through them. still felt great.
