Catching the Snatch

We’ve been using the Burgener Warm-up all week as we get ready to start working on snatching a barbell (coming soon!).  Tomorrow we’ve got overhead squats programmed as the strength portion of the class.  The overhead squat is to the snatch, as the front squat is to the clean, it is the catch position.  If you can’t overhead squat a load you won’t be able to snatch it.  Keep that in mind as you work your core-to-extremity strength and balance while stabilizing weight overhead and squatting.

Complete 5 rounds for time of:

15 burpee med ball cleans

40 jumping pull-ups

    I don’t know how long it is going to take for me to finally learn my lesson so that I stop looking at the WOD and thinking ‘that doesn’t look so bad’. LOL Those burpee MB cleans are no joke!!!

  2. Scabby knees, screaming shoulders, bruised hips, complaining lungs…oddly feeling on top of the world. Today’s WOD took 29:03 mins of my life, but not 30!!

    In other news: Paleo Day 3 and desperately seaching for evidence that cavemen enjoyed the occasional chocolate croissant.

    1. Have you looked at anthropological records from Paris? I guarantee that French cavemen were rocking chocolate croissants and red wine (they used stone Riedel goblets) way back in the day.

      1. Haley, what island are you going to? I first discovered CrossFit in Maui ( from a bartender named Mary at the Lahaina Grille. I would definitely suggest you check it out if you’re going to that island. I’m guessing their are CF affiliates on the other islands too. Have a great trip! : )

I’m actually going to be in Honolulu for the week, so I won’t be able to check out CF Maui, BUT I did get in touch with the people at CrossFit Oahu, so I’m planning on taking a break from the beach and getting in some good workouts with them… I’ll rep CF Fenway as best I can!! See you at a 530 class as soon as I get back!

  3. Great workout today. I feel like I could have pushed it a little further on the OHS, but it had been about seven months since I had done them. Need to work on flexibility and keeping my chest upright. I feel my METCON getting a little better already, so thats a good sign. Still a long way to go.
